Ipswich expands flood awareness network with 13 new cameras

Ipswich City Council is strengthening community safety and flood preparedness with the installation of 13 new flood awareness cameras underway across the city.

Once operational, the new cameras will bring the total number of flood awareness cameras viewable on the city’s online Disaster Dashboard to 37.

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the cameras will provide real-time vision of local waterways, bridges and culverts during severe weather, helping residents and emergency services to make more informed decisions.

“Ipswich is no stranger to floods and it’s not a matter of if another one comes but rather when,” Mayor Harding said.

“By expanding our flood awareness camera network, we’re improving monitoring of key crossing points and waterways where conditions can change quickly.

“These cameras will give residents a clearer picture of conditions on the ground, allowing them to make safer choices about travel and protecting their homes and families.

“The information they provide will also be invaluable for council and other agencies when responding during severe weather events.”

The new camera locations are:

Brisbane Road over Bundamba Creek

Cunningham Highway at Warrill Creek

Mount Crosby Road at bridge over Sandy Creek

Kingsmill Road at Hancock Bridge over Bremer River

South Queensborough Parade near Blue Gum Reserve

Old Toowoomba Road at Three Mile Bridge over Bremer River

Hunter Street at bridge over Mihi Creek

Haig Street at culvert over gully from MiHi Creek

Arthur Summervilles Road at culvert over gully from Bremer River, near intersection with Gascoyne Drive

Lower James Street at culvert over gully from Nunya Creek, near intersection with Brisbane Terrace

Brisbane Terrace at bridge over Goodna Creek, near intersection with Lower Cross Street

Kuss Road at Lee Bridge over Western Creek, near intersection with Waters Road

Ripley Road between Bayliss Road and Watsons Road at culvert over Bundamba Creek.

Ipswich’s flood awareness cameras provide real-time vision of local waterways, bridges and culverts during severe weather.

Mayor Harding said council was committed to advancing the city’s disaster preparedness.

“These cameras are another important tool to help our community stay safe and resilient,” Mayor Harding said.

“The new cameras will be gradually brought online with their data feed expected to be added to the Disaster Dashboard over the coming months.”
