Four new COVID-19 cases recorded in Queensland overnight

Four new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Queensland overnight as Ipswich and the South East Queensland region, Townsville, Magnetic Island and Palm Island, enter day one of a three-day lockdown.

Three of those COVID-19 cases are locally acquired with one case in hotel quarantine.

All locally acquired cases are linked to existing close contacts and are in quarantine.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk urged the community to follow Queensland Health directives and wear a mask.

“Please wear your mask unless you are exercising by yourself,” Premier Palaszczuk said.

“If you are going out or going grocery shopping, please put your mask on.”

Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said she would like to thank the 18,447 people who have come forward to get tested in the last 24 hours.

“Thank you to every single person who has come forward to get tested in the last 24 hours,” Dr Young said.

“Four new cases overnight and our contract tracers have been doing their work, because all of these locally acquired cases have been linked.”

Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding urged residents to continue to come forward and get tested if they have any COVID-19 symptoms.

“If you have any symptoms, however mild, come forward and get a COVID-19 test,” Mayor Harding said.

“Some of the symptoms to look out for include a runny nose, fever, sore throat, headache and cough.

“COVID testing is available at the Ipswich Fever Clinic at Ipswich Hospital or at a number of private clinics throughout the Ipswich community.

“If we all do our part and follow all health directives, wear a mask and observe social distancing, together we can keep our community safe.”

There are now a total of 42 active cases in Queensland.

Lockdown restrictions:

Until 6pm Friday, 2 July residents can only leave home for one of four reasons:

To buy essential such as groceries or medications

Work or study if you can’t do either from home

Exercise in your local area

Healthcare or to provide help, care or support

Queensland Health are asking all Queenslanders to regularly monitor the list of exposure venues on the Queensland Health website and follow the public health advice.

Face masks

This includes:

You must carry a face mask with you at all times.

You must wear a face mask at all times when you are outside your home, unless:

you are alone in your car or with the members of your household

you are eating or drinking

you are at your usual workplace and can physically distance from others (except if you work in a hospitality venue or are a passenger transport operator)

you are alone outdoors or with members of your household

it is unsafe.

There are some other exceptions to wearing face masks, including for children under 12 and people with particular medical conditions or disabilities. If in doubt, wear a face mask.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia.

People with coronavirus may experience symptoms such as:

fever

coughing

sore throat

shortness of breath

runny nose

fatigue

diarrhoea

vomiting or nausea

loss of smell and/or taste

Other symptoms can include muscle or joint pains or loss of appetite.

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, call your doctor or 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84) and get tested.

COVID-19 Vaccine

Eligible people can now book to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is now recommended for use during pregnancy .

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is now the preferred vaccine for use in people under the age of 60 .
