New guidelines to help sporting clubs grow sponsorship opportunities

Ipswich City Council is introducing new guidelines that will help sports clubs around the city attract and grow sponsorship opportunities.

Community and Sport Committee Chairperson Councillor Jacob Madsen said the new Sports Venue Signage Guidelines would make it easier for clubs looking to use signage to attract sponsorship and generate additional revenue, while standardising signage requirements across council-owned facilities.

“As Ipswich grows at unprecedented rates, the demand for sporting facilities and clubs is increasing, which comes with challenges,” Cr Madsen said.

“Many community sporting clubs are actively seeking to strengthen their financial sustainability by exploring alternative funding streams alongside their traditional fundraising activities.

“We know many clubs rely on sponsorship to support operations, improve facilities and reduce costs for participants.

“By providing clear signage guidelines and sponsorship resources, council is helping clubs navigate the process with confidence while ensuring council-owned venues remain welcoming and well-presented.

“By introducing these new guidelines, council will provide a clear and consistent framework to support clubs that are seeking sponsorship and ensure signage is managed appropriately across council‑owned venues.”

Community and Sport Committee Deputy Chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said sponsorships were vital for both local clubs and businesses.

“Sponsorships create valuable connections between local businesses and community sport, improving businesses visibility and engagement, while clubs receive funds or in-kind support,” Cr Augustine said.

“Strong sponsorship arrangements contribute to better facilities, improved participation opportunities and stronger community outcomes.

“The guidelines outline approval requirements, permitted signage locations, size limitations and club responsibilities, as well as clarifying that written approval from council remains a requirement before the installation of sponsorship signage.

“These new guidelines will provide clubs with practical tools to attract sponsorship, build lasting partnerships and continue delivering great outcomes for the Ipswich community.”

The new Sport Venue Signage Guidelines, sponsorship resources and application information are available on council’s website or by contacting council’s Sport and Recreation team.
