Christmas comes early as millions in upgrades completed on rural roads
Council has delivered $1.63 million in road upgrades to Thagoona, Rosewood, Walloon and Marburg following engagement by Division 4 Councillors with local residents and the community.
Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said Council was delivering the biggest boost to roads that locals have seen in years.
“Community feedback was a key driver for this significant investment. We’ve combined local input and expert assessments to ensure the best outcome,” Cr Milligan said.
“Council is committed to improving safety on local roads. The significant resurfacing and rehabilitation works in these communities has improved the driving conditions in western Ipswich.”
An additional $3.63 million in longer-term upgrades are set to follow for culvert replacement and road pavement reconstruction on Adelong Avenue in Thagoona.
These upgrades are in early planning stages and are scheduled to be designed over the next two years.
Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said independent assessments found this would deliver the best value for money.
“Council is standing by its commitment that established suburbs won’t be left behind as Ipswich continues to grow,” Cr Kunzelmann said.
“I would like to thank the local communities for their patience during the extensive resurfacing works on almost a dozen local roads, and they can now enjoy a smooth drive for years to come.”
