4. 2026-2031 Indigenous Accord

4. 2026-2031 Indigenous Accord

Ipswich City Council has a long‑standing commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, formalised through a series of Indigenous Accords since 1995.

Following the delivery of the Indigenous Accord 2020–2025 and consideration of its Outcomes Report in August 2025, Council officers have commenced early development of a draft Indigenous Accord 2026–2031. The draft has been prepared to a preliminary working stage and reflects existing Council activities, strategic commitments and those areas where Council is best placed to lead, partner or advocate.

This workshop seeks early Councillor involvement as a key step in shaping the strategic direction, priorities and intent of the next Indigenous Accord. Councillor input at this stage will help ensure the draft reflects Council’s leadership role and governance responsibilities, prior to broader internal engagement and structured consultation.

The workshop will focus on strategic discussion rather than detailed drafting, enabling Councillors to identify key opportunities and provide guidance that will inform refinement of the draft ahead of wider engagement and final endorsement by Council.

MATTERS ARISING:

Councillors in attendance noted, discussed and provided feedback on the information presented on the 2026-2031 Indigenous Accord.

Next steps is to consider any feedback from Councillors to refine the working draft Accord, undertake targeted community consultation, finalise the Accord for Council endorsement and implementation.
