Dr Marianne Hanson, Co-Chair of ICAN Australia (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons), is inviting Ipswich City Council to sign the ‘Cities Appeal’ and will provide a presentation to councillors.

2. Climate Risk Management of Councils Operations

2. Climate Risk Management of Councils Operations

Council is currently implementing a climate risk management framework to enable Council to understand, plan, and mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change methodically and thoroughly. Climate risks being considered at this point in time are in relation to operational and community assets.

In the Councillor Workshop the Sustainability team will present the climate risk management framework, how this is being implemented and the results of the internal engagement work undertaken so far for Council’s operations.

MATTERS ARISING:

Councillors in attendance noted and discussed the information presented on the Climate Risk Management of Council’s Operations.

The Sustainability team will continue to facilitate Council working through the Climate Compass Risk Framework to achieve the actions outlined in the Sustainability Strategy.

3. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Engagement Guide

The purpose of this briefing is to provide Councillors with an overview of the Draft Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Engagement Guide (Engagement Guide). The Draft Engagement Guide has been developed to assist with initiating and improving engagement between Council, our Traditional Owners and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Communities.

The briefing also covers the proposed approach to engaging with the community to finalise the contents of the Draft Engagement Guide.

4. Bi-monthly Strategic Priorities

4. Bi-monthly Strategic Priorities

This forms part of the regular bi-monthly strategic priorities workshops for the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors to meet with the CEO to discuss strategic priorities, opportunities, challenges and risks. A presentation will be emailed to the attendees before the meeting and uploaded to LGHub.

This workshop will focus on how the recently released Financial Sustainability measures will be utilised to inform and guide future investment planning and decision making for council.

MATTERS ARISING:

Councillors in attendance discussed strategic priorities, opportunities, challenges and risks.

Councillors were invited to send through their key items for discussion for the next briefing session/workshop.

At the next bi-monthly strategic priorities workshop, in-depth discussion will be facilitated on specific priorities.

A list of specific actions to be pursued in relation to council’s strategic priorities will be compiled.

5. External Funding Workshop

5. External Funding Workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to explore the strategic position of external funding* for when/how we apply/use funds from the Australian Government, State Government and other organisations. A slide deck will be emailed prior to the workshop (and uploaded to LG Hub) to assist with discussion on the day.

*External funding here is in the context of funding programs that get advertised/released by Australian Government/State Government/Other orgs where local governments are eligible to apply. This is not to be confused with the advocacy function/advocacy plan; or the community grants that council gives out.

Councillors in attendance noted and discussed Council’s strategic position in relation to external funding.

PROCEDURAL MOTIONS AND FORMAL MATTERS

The meeting commenced at 9.05 am.

The meeting adjourned at 9.43 am.

The meeting reconvened at 10.33 am with all councillors in attendance except Mayor Harding and Councillors Doyle and Madsen.

Councillor Madsen returned to the meeting at 10.51 am.

Councillor Doyle returned to the meeting at 10.56 am.

Mayor Teresa Harding joined the meeting at 11.05 am (via audio-link).

The meeting adjourned at 11.20 am.

The meeting reconvened at 1.04 pm with all councillors in attendance except Deputy Mayor Milligan and Councillors Ireland and Fechner.

Councillor Fechner returned to the meeting at 2.06 pm.

Councillor Tully left the meeting at 2.10 pm.

The meeting closed at 2.37 pm.
