2. State Election Advocacy Campaign Update

This is a report providing an update in relation to Council’s ‘We Can’t Wait’ 2024 state election advocacy campaign.

Recommendation

That the report be received and the contents noted .

DISCUSSION

The committee discussed 2024 State Election campaigning and third party registration and queried if the third party registration ceases at the end of the campaign or is ongoing.

ACTION

That the General Manager Community, Cultural and Economic Development investigate and advise if the third party registration of Ipswich City Council would cease at the end of the 2024 State Election Campaign.

3. Regionally Significant Projects Update

This is a report providing an update in relation to two of Council’s regionally significant projects:

· Ipswich to Springfield Central Public Transport Corridor (I2S)

· North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct

Recommendation

A. That the report be received and the contents noted.

B. That Council write to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Shadow Minister for Transport and Main Roads to request a review of the train scheduling between Ipswich and Brisbane with a view to increasing the number of services.

DISCUSSION

The Economic Development Manager provided an update on the projects.

Councillor Jim Madden raised the issue of the lack of train services, including express train services, between Ipswich and Brisbane.

The Economic Development Manager provided an overview of actions relating to Leveraging 2032: Our Roadmap to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

ACTION

That the General Manager, Community, Cultural and Economic Development review and advise on the suitability of Limestone Park as a location for a competition level athletics facility (Tartan Track).
